I am the daughter of James H. Jackson who boarded the USS. Mississinewa and tried to help fight the fire.  He received a Commendation Ribbon for his actions on that day.  Please see a copy of the Citation letter below.   The only ship my dad served on was the U.S.S. Munsee.   We have a set of the pictures that Sid Harris took of the USS. Mississinewa.  My father died a number of years ago.   He seldom (almost never) talked about his experiences during World War II.  I have also attached a copy of his discharge which shows his time on the USS Munsee.
