Halifax is a bustling metropolitan city, serving as the hub of commerce for Atlantic Canada and a mecca to Torontorians looking for a place to "get away from it all". Halifax and the surrounding area are worth the visit to explore some of the delightful coves along Nova Scotia's rugged coast, take a walking tour of downtown Halifax, or take oldest continuous-running saltwater ferry in North America across to Dartmouth.

Haligonians were treated in May 1999 to an unexpected visit by two Type 206A coastal submarines of the German Navy.  FDS U15 (S194) and FDS U25 (S174) called in at Halifax accompanied by the German Luneburg class submarine tender FDS Meersburg (A1418).  This marked the first time since World War II that German u-boats have been anywhere near Halifax.
